Training & Organisational Development

- Delivering open-access and tailor-made training activities
- Supporting organisations to improve processes of leadership, planning, monitoring and learning

Training and organisation development are key ingredients of “capacity development” (or building), the process by which individuals, organisations and institutions enhance and organise their systems, resources and knowledge. The degree of capacity development is reflected in their abilities, individually and collectively, to perform functions, solve problems and achieve objectives.

So we distinguish various forms of capacity, for example:

  • ability to self-organise and act
  • ability to produce results
  • ability to learn and adjust
  • ability to maintain relations and create operating space
  • ability to come together and direct

CDI offers a range of capacity development services at different levels: for individuals, teams, organisations and institutions. These include open-access and tailor-made training activities, as well as targeted support to organisations to improve processes of leadership, planning and learning. Where possible, we offer our services as part of integrated and mutually reinforcing innovation and change trajectories.

Training & Organisational Development in Practice  Examples

Training course programme

The short training course programme of the Centre for Development Innovation offers mid-career professionals opportunities to gain relevant new insights into their work and professional sectors. We make use of the latest scientific research, drawing on the wide network of expertise at Wageningen UR. We link the theory with policy developments and practice. Using conceptual knowledge to structure participants’ own experiences, the courses offer valuable opportunities to reflect and analyse with peers on new approaches, tools, methods and their practical use and relevance. The courses (approximately 40 regular and tailor-made courses every year) are characterised by a high level of interaction, use of participatory facilitation methods and the application of ICT technology where relevant.
