Developmental Evaluation – New Kid on the Evaluation Block: an expert seminar on developmental evaluation by evaluation expert Dr. Michael Quinn Patton, 22 March 2012.
Developmental evaluation is based on insights from complex dynamic systems, uncertainty, nonlinearity, and emergence. This seminar (22 March, Wageningen, The Netherlands) enables participants to know when developmental evaluation is useful and how to take the first steps. Dr. Patton will start by explaining developmental evaluation and illustrate it with many examples from his own experience. Then participants will debate the practical application of developmental evaluation in development, based on their existing evaluation questions. How is this framework different from existing practice of ongoing reflective monitoring in development? What new insights can help strengthen the utility of evaluation for development?
Dr. Patton will discuss the developmental evaluation framework as detailed in his book Developmental Evaluation: Applying Complexity Concepts to Enhance Innovation and Use.
Hot issues on the M&E agenda A follow-up expert seminar with Dr Patton will be held on 23 March: Hot issues on the M&E agenda. This event is on invitation only and will be smaller than the expert seminar on developmental seminar on 22 March. Click here for more information.
Both events are organised by Wageningen UR Centre for Development Innovation in collaboration with Learning by Design, Context, international cooperation, GIZ and Hivos. Click here for the seminar flyer and registration.
