Programmes

CDI’s forerunners
The Centre for Development Innovation builds on the agricultural and rural development work started over half a century ago by the International Agricultural Centre (IAC). In the first fifty years more than 15,000 professionals received training in many agriculture-related subjects.
As the 21st century started, the IAC broadened its focus of work and sources of funding. A solid portfolio of international partners and projects was created, upon which the Capacity Development &Institutional Change programme was established in 2006. The traditional focus on short courses run in the Netherlands was complemented by an increasing range of capacity building and advisory services abroad.
This work has evolved over the past four years, and at the end of 2009 the Centre for Development Innovation became part of the Wageningen UR Social Sciences Group: an acknowledgement of the role that CDI plays in linking academic research and development practice.
